One of the effects of the downturn has been to align even more sharply the needs of the overall organization to the activities of the IT department. While this has been a goal for the better part of two decades, the downturn sharpened the emphasis on those projects that would deliver a clear business benefit.
“There is a much sharper focus on the business case,” says Peter Hourihan, CIO at Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (API), “a far greater concentration on how benefits will be delivered, on the measurement process to deliver them, and who is going to take responsibility, even before you get to an IT discussion.”
