Tampa Employment Market: #4 for U.S. Job Growth

Employment in the Tampa Bay region grew by 24 percent between December 2009 and January 2016, according to a review of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics by The New York Times, making it fourth for job growth in the United States. Only Austin, San Jose and Charlotte had higher rates of job growth since the start of the Great Recession. In the same period, the area’s unemployment rate fell from 11.9 to 4.6 percent.1

Going To Career Fairs Can Set You Apart From Other Applicants

A career fair can be your special moment to jump-start your career search. Think about it:

1. You have recruiters / companies that are actively looking for new talent.

2. You are getting face-to-face interviews.

3. Due to the large number of job seekers that are there, you have a unique opportunity to exhibit some positive things that will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Talent Wars: The Return of the Recruiter

Talent Wars: The Return of the Recruiter

Learning How To Recruit Talent Is Based Around On-The-Job Training

Most movies follow a pretty predictable plot line. In the hero’s journey, we watch the evolution of our protagonist. Usually starting from humble means and a position of ridicule, the journey transforms the character into an idealized individual. In my favorite movie, Star Wars, we watch the journey of a lost boy on the planet furthest from the bright center of the universe to the liberator and hero of that same universe.

Our path to recruiting isn’t always so linear. We dive into sales, strategy and marketing or simply fall into the roll with little to no formalized training. Unlike an engineer, per se, who goes through a litany of trainings and certifications to do their role, we’re left to learn on our own.

Chicago Job Market: Growth in Some Industries, Losses in Others

Chicago Job Market: Growth in Some Industries, Losses in Others

In the last decade, Chicago has been a magnet for new and expanding corporate facilities and headquarters including Motorola Solutions, McDonald’s, ConAgra and Hillshire Brands. More than 50 companies have relocated to Chicago since 2007. Some organizations have come from outside the Chicago area, but many have moved from Chicago’s suburbs to downtown properties1 As a result of these moves, the Windy City was named the “Top Metro” in the U.S. in 2015 for corporate investment by Site Selection Magazine. It was the third year in a row the city held the top spot.2

Chicago was also recently named one of 19 global “knowledge capitals” by the Washington D.C.-based think tank, the Brookings Institution, for its high concentration of elite universities, research hospitals, entrepreneurship and preparedness for the global economy.3

5 Ways Job Seekers Can Stay Motivated During a Job Search

5 Ways Job Seekers Can Stay Motivated During a Job Search

Working To Find A Job Can Be Difficult And Tiring

Looking for a job can take its toll. Searching for suitable roles, networking, writing endless cover letters… and nothing is more disheartening than the deafening silence that can follow an application. So how can you stay motivated?

It’s important to remember that with so many factors at play when you apply for a job, a rejection is not necessarily a reflection of your abilities (or lack thereof). Here are five ways to keep a positive outlook while looking for employment.

Keep a daily routine

If you’re unemployed and searching for work, it’s crucial to set a daily routine. Giving yourself goals and tasks each day will give you a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Make sure you get out of bed at a similar time each morning, take a shower and get dressed for the day. Sleeping in, spending the day in your pajamas and frittering the time away are counterproductive to the motivated job seeker.

Hiring in Boston: A Thriving Knowledge Capital

Hiring in Boston: A Thriving Knowledge Capital

The Brookings Institution named Boston a “Knowledge Capital” along with 18 other cities around the world. The think tank awarded the designation to mid-sized cities that were home to a high concentration of elite research universities, a talented workforce and productive and innovative businesses.

In a report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and 1776, a global business incubator that supports emerging companies, Boston also ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for a startup climate that fosters entrepreneurship and innovation. Though Silicon Valley was home to more startup activity overall, Boston bested the San Francisco Bay Area based on preparedness for the digital economy, quality of life, a friendly regulatory environment for startups, and a wealth of tech companies focusing on education, healthcare and energy issues.1
